Pasta Salads Zone
Hey so I really like pasta salad. It's like THE food of all time for me. Here's a fistful and a half of pasta salads I've made/encountered in the wild.
- Walmart American Style: rotini, black olives, exactly 2 cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese and chunks of vaguely seasoned chicken in mid-grade Ranch Dressing. It's mostly bland (it really could use more than 2 tomatoes) and is probably only worth it if you really, really like ranch.
-
- Homebrew Salad 1: penne, sliced hearts of palm, canned mushrooms and chickpeas, and a sauce made of mayo, sriracha, and garlic vinaigrette in vuage amounts. It's not very good and all of the vegetables would be best substituted for something else entirely, but when it's 11pm on a weeknight and you don't want to go to bed hungry, it works.
-
- Cheaper pasta salad: Any pasta salad recipe, but replacing the pasta with instant noodles
-
- Homebrew Salad 2: Pasta, drained canned green beans, sour cream, a liiiiitle bit of mayo, salt and pepper to taste, best eaten in a very 80s kitchen.
-
- That stuff that appeared ONCE at a church luncheon: I remember it was an unusual pasta shape, with a strong briny flavor and lots of tomatoes. there was definitely also some kind of grain, a leafy green, and crumbled feta cheese. the stuff was legendary and I have not seen it at any luncheon since.
-
- "generic" pasta salad: rotini, slightly overboiled, with diced bell pepper, cucumber and tomato, in an incredibly generic vinaigrette, usually not seasoned beyond that. it's pretty ok
-
- Generic Macaroni Salad: Macaroni, diced crunchy vegetables, mayo(?) and some mystery substance that makes it taste terrible unless it's homemade.
